The Pneumatic Comfort System (PCS)
The success recipe of the Pneumatic Comfort System is that it addresses several aircraft industry needs at the same time. But the underlying principle is very simple: Air-filled cushions replace conventional upholstery foams. This enhances the comfort experience and reduces the weight of the seat.
As of June 1, 2020 Caynova AG has the entire responsibility for the Pneumatic Comfort System (PCS), Heating and Cooling System (HCS) and Personal Fan System (PFS).
Key facts at a glance
Lantal's pneumatic seat cushions are based on a patented technology that complies with all Airbus/Boeing and EASA/FAA safety standards. Due to the existing DO/PO Agreement with the seat manufacturers, Lantal – as a Production Organization (POA, EASA Part 21 G) – is authorized to manufacture air-filled seat cushions according to EASA-approved design data) and deliver parts with an EASA Form 1.
The Pneumatic Comfort System exemplifies Lantal's pioneering spirit. What started out as a bold vision many years ago ushered in a new era for aircraft seats in 2009, thanks to entrepreneurial foresight and perseverance.
Since then, the PCS has established itself in the markeplace: leading international airlines rely on the advantages of the PCS.
Components
Three main components define Lantal's Pneumatic Comfort System: The function, the pneumatics, and the cushion. Discover the functions of each component.
Air-filled cushions that totally replace foams are the key components of the PCS. Pressure is distributed across multiple chambers to maximize passenger comfort. Both in the sitting and lie-flat positions, the PCS automatically adjusts itself. However, passengers can always modify the firmness of the cushions to their personal preferences and pamper themselves with the integrated massage function.
An integrated pump and a valve block control the air flow to the individual cushions. The pressure difference between the cabin and the cushions is permanently monitored by an intelligent system. Depending on the situation, air is added or vented almost inaudibly to offer each passenger the highest level of comfort.

The cushion is made of very rugged polyurethane and additionally protected against heat and mechanical damage with a special Nomex/Kevlar fabric. The degree of comfort is further improved with an optional spacer fabric.
